it means overdrive off. push the button in on the gear shift.

You only really need it to be ON when you are pulling a trailer, hauling excessive weight, or live in a hilly area...like San Francisco.

Half pint has it reversed - OD off should be in hilly areas.

Basically you lose your top gear when it is off (if you have 4 speeds, with OD off you will have 3). Your gas mileage will go down, but your car will have more power.
